Simple tips on getting out of debt!

Cut up all your credit cards and keep only one for emergencies. Paying by cash will make you more aware of how much you are spending, and will help you think twice before you depart with it.

Keep receipts for everything you spend and pin them up somewhere to remind yourself of how much money you have spent; then group these receipts into essential and non-essential and avoid buying the non-essentials, which are usually things you want but don’t need. By holding back on purchases, such as clothes, you will be able to get out of debt quickly – every little counts towards a positive bank balance.

If you are paying off credit card balances, pay more than the minimum amount, otherwise all your interest payments will accumulate into a large sum.

Create a debt plan outlining who you owe money to, how much and the monthly payments. Prioritise your debts, e.g. debts with high interest rates would most likely be paid off before loans from family and friends. It will get easier to pay off your debts, as you get down your list.

Persevere and visualise the end goal to become debt free. Having a positive bank balance and savings that can be used towards more rewarding purchases, will make fighting off debt worth it in the end.

Consider what skills and hobbies you have that you could profit from. Most successful businesses started of small before they made their millions.
